The last time WACX visited the SpeedDome was around 2016. So it’s been a long time between drinks for this course that packs a lot into a relatively small space!

Riders and spectators were treated to a fantastic day of racing as we got into the season proper at Round 1 of the Liquor Barons Numbat Cup Series. While the high temperatures tested racers out on course, there was welcome reprieve for the spectators who cheered the riders through the technical forest sections from under the shade of the trees.

After months of very dry conditions in Perth, the morning course build was particularly difficult. The ground was rock hard so many of the poles were unable to be easily hammered into the ground like they normally are. So it meant that a hardy group of volunteers had to use a drill plugged into a portable generator to individually drill the holes for the many PVC poles that lined the course. The fact that they got this hard work done before the kids racing kicked off is amazing! At our next race, please consider coming down to assist with the course build at 8am on race day. Many hands make light work, so the more people we have assisting, the quicker the course is ready to practice and race on.

As always with a big day of cyclocross racing, we have a long list of people and businesses to thank. First of all, thank you to the course builders. Based on the comments popping up on social media, the course was a hit with both riders and spectators!

Thanks to all our business sponsors for their continued support. Liquor BaronsMelody WheelsMayeur Cycling ApparelTwin Peaks Coffee RoastersWembley Cycles, Nowhereman Brewing Co and BE&R Consulting all contribute to making WACX the inclusive and fun community that it is.

The biggest of thanks goes to Stuart Carson who squirrels away in the background organising many aspects of the racing that no one sees. He manages all of our EntryBoss admin, electronic race timing and countless other tasks.

Thank you to Cameron Bond who not only assisted with the course build from 8am, but also shadowed Stu in the race timing tent for the entire day to ensure our racers could compare their lap times to their rivals.

Thanks to Mandy McEvoy, Craig Makin and Claudia Dohr for running the rego desk. With the growing number of participants at WACX events this season we are in need of some more assistance at the rego desk. If you can help out at the rego desk please get in touch with us. The desk needs to be manned from 10am – 2pm on race day. So if you can spare an hour to help out, it would be much appreciated.

We had 195 riders on the start line on Sunday. It is so heartening to see the growth of CX in Perth. However this growth does put more pressure on the small number of volunteers that WACX relies on to put racing on each week, so please give them a pat on the back and pass on your thanks at any opportunity you get!

Results from racing are below. Please note that there may be a few incorrect results as the timing chips weren’t reading perfectly.
