Cross is back in the West!
So great to see old faces, new faces, and pain faces. There was plenty of suffering in between the tape, but as always, the post-race smiles were huge.
Thanks to the sponsors of WACX – Liquor Barons, Melody Wheels, Mayeur Cycling Apparel, Twin Peaks Coffee Roasters, Wembley Cycles and Nowhereman Brewing Co.
The attendance at today’s opening race of the season was monumental! We had big fields with record numbers. 30+ new riders, just under 70 kids and a huge senior field that sets the scene for a terrific season of ‘cross ahead.
A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers who stepped up to help today. We had a huge turn-out for the course build, which was great to see. Andy from BE&R Consulting put on free coffee and treats for our volunteers post-course build. And we appreciate everyone who chipped in to help pull the course down after the final race.
Thank you to the team led by Mandy McEvoy in the rego/admin tent. Jan O’Brien, Claire Gray and Suzanne Hutchinson were kept very busy handing out race plates, checking race licences and answer all questions. They were the real MVPs today!
A shout out to Tristan Nash, the reigning U23 Australian National Cyclocross Champion, for running a skills session for our novice riders and those wanting to sharpen their skills.
Thank you to Cameron Bond for shadowing Stu and learning the ropes of our race timing.
