Iho Park, South Guildford
The final race of the 2023 Numbat Cup Series saw racers battle it out at Iho Park in South Guildford. This small pocket of land that is tucked in where Helena River drains into the Swan River is a perfect place for a cyclocross race.
And whilst the day presented with perfect blue skies, the course challenged all riders. The inclusion of a bit of mud brought extra smiles.
The kids led the way with the largest field of the day. Did you know 140 kids signed up to race CX throughout the 2023 season? And it is great to see that the kids are often bringing new riders to the start line, not just their young friends, but also encouraging their parents to give the sport a crack! It’s the perfect family fun day out.
This event also saw a first for WACX – a penny-farthing out on the course. Whilst our single speed racers take CX to the next level of pain (or some may say foolishness), imagine doing this course on a Penny farthing that doesn’t allow free-wheeling. Kudos to you crazy gents! If anyone got the video of the Penny farthing riders in transition, please post this in on the WA Cyclocross Facebook group for all to enjoy.
Results for the final round of the 2023 Numbat Cup Series are below. Congratulations to all riders, particularly those on the podium.
We will keep these racers in the spotlight for a few days. The results of the Numbat Cup Series and winners of each category for the season will be posted later this week.
Whilst WACX racing is finished for the year, all senior racers are reminded to keep their race numbers for next season (front plate and seat post plate).
