Sunday 3 May 2026
Fishmarket Reserve, Guildford
Today’s event delivered another fantastic day of cyclocross racing, with strong fields, an outstanding course, and a huge team effort behind the scenes to make it all happen. Great to see Giles and the crew from Guildford-based bike shop Elevation Cycles supporting the event. They were on-hand for mechanical support and even threw out a few spot prizes for lucky riders.
Epic course building effort
A massive thank you must go to our course builders. With a lower than usual course build turnout and hard, dry ground making conditions particularly challenging, the team went above and beyond — literally drilling every pole into the ground using a generator-powered drill across the 2+ km course. An enormous effort that did not go unnoticed. Please consider chipping in from 8am on race day to build the course you’ll be racing on.
Race day crew
Events like this don’t run without a dedicated crew. Thanks to:
- Ben Thorman on the mic keeping the energy high all day
- Sam Bolton handling commissaire duties
- Chris from WASE Timing ensuring accurate lap timing
- Andrew Plunkett as today’s Cross Boss (Race Director)
A special thanks also to our check-in crew — Bernadette Nash, Keri McDonald, Kiri Moore, Simon Hansen, Tanya Birkbeck, Craig Makin (and chief Chupa Chup 🍭 distributor post Little Crossers event), and Suzie — for keeping everything running smoothly from the moment riders arrived.
Best course yet?
Huge credit to Ben Nash for course design. The feedback from around the race village was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it one of the best courses we’ve had. Riders were treated to a fast downhill run into the first turn, tricky off-cambers, sandy sections, and even a touch of mud to keep things interesting.
Racing highlights
It was fantastic to see 55 kids take part in the Little Crossers event — a spectacular sight as they charged down the start straight.
Across the rest of the day, another 140 riders took to the course, with plenty of thrills and spills across all categories.
Alayla Schmid continued her strong form, taking a commanding win in the Elite Women’s race and extending her lead in the Series. Tristan Nash made an impressive debut ride in his Elite National Cyclocross jersey, dominating the Elite Men’s race and even clocking a remarkable 4:56 lap time.
Congratulations to everyone who raced and contributed to another great day of cyclocross.
