Carine Open Space
Round 2 of the 2026 Liquor Barons Numbat Cup Series, presented by Carine-based local bike shop Crossroads Bicycle Co. delivered a fantastic day of racing, with bumper fields across all categories and more than 200 riders taking to the start line.
The day kicked off with a huge turnout for the Little Crossers event, with over 60 kids lining up. It was great to see so many young riders getting involved, even if a few parents looked relieved when the 20 minutes of chasing them around the course came to an end.
Riders were met with a sandy and technical course that evolved throughout the day. The surface became increasingly cut up, with ruts forming and lines changing lap by lap. Carrying speed into corners proved risky, and plenty of riders found themselves on the ground after pushing just a little too hard.
The hairpin descent just before the home straight was particularly testing and claimed victims across multiple categories and kept things interesting right through the final races.
Elite racing
In the Elite Women’s race, Alayla Schmid continued her strong form, taking the win ahead of Ruby Gallagher in second place.
The Elite Men’s race saw a commanding performance from Toby Price to take the victory. Behind him, a tight battle played out on the final lap, with Hayden James edging out Lewis Blackie to round out the podium.
Thank You
As always, a big thank you to everyone who made the day possible. Our volunteers once again put in a huge effort across course setup, registration, timing, and pack-down. We’re also incredibly grateful to the council for allowing us to use the venue, and to our sponsors for their ongoing support of the series.
And of course, thanks to all the riders, spectators, and supporters who contribute to the great atmosphere at every event.
