Iho Park, South Guildford
The volunteers, support crews, spectators and riders who came down to Iho Park for the final round of the Liquor Barons Numbat Cup Series were treated to some proper European-style cyclocross racing. And while the course started the day with a bit of grass on it, by the end of the day’s racing there was thick mud and slippery turns everywhere you looked.
Course build and volunteers
The volunteers who came down for the 8am course build were very happy to see sunny skies. All the riders who pinned a number on appreciate you taking the time out of your day to build the course we all race on. Thanks for your contributions to the WACX community. A special thanks goes out to Ben Nash who, this season, has made a name for himself as one of our best course designers. Another cracking course, thanks Ben.
And please give a pat on the back to the following volunteers who helped out in the race rego tent on the day – Jack R, Craig M, Kiri M, Brad S, Tanya M and Claudia D.
The day’s racing
The rains rolled in the minute the kids racing got underway, but it didn’t dampen their spirits. Great to see so many of our littler ‘crossers’ getting muddy and loving it. We even heard that some kids weren’t happy with the amount of mud on the kids course, and convinced their parents to let them have a play on the adults course during free practice to get really muddy!
After the kids racing, it was on-and-off rain and squalls for the rest of the day. We hope all the riders enjoyed the challenging conditions. It was quite a change from the drier and sandier conditions we’ve experienced at many other races this season.
Photographers on the loose
We’re very fortunate at WACX to have the support of a great group of photographers. Keep an eye out on the socials for all the galleries from the day. From what we’ve seen already, they look epic.
In attendance during the racing included Stack Art Photography, Tony Lendrum Photography and Jason from Eye Capturing Photography. We hope your equipment has dried out after a big day of shooting.
Final race of the season
Don’t forget that we’ve still got one more race this season – the AusCycling WA State Cyclocross Championships. And don’t be scared off by the name of this race. It’s still the same friendly, grassroots racing that you’re used to.
The official ‘AusCycling’ State Championship events will only apply to the following categories – Elite, U19, U17, U15 and U13.
All other categories will be raced as per the regular Numbat Cup Series races. We’d love to see you there, so head on over to the Calendar to find out more.
