Results – 2025 Liquor Barons Numbat Cup Round 1

Sunday 13 April 2025

Carine Open Space, Carine

To say that cyclocross is alive and kicking in the west is somewhat of an understatement. The turn-out for Round 1 of the 2025 Liquor Barons Numbat Cup Series was beyond all expectations, although there were indications in the weeks leading into the event with solid race entries coming in.

Huge fields across all categories

All up, 210 riders pinned a number on and got between the tape to test out our brand new venue at Carine Regional Open Space. A special thanks goes out to Ashley Williams who, after spending a full day at work, headed out to the venue late on Saturday afternoon to mark out the course. From the red faces and excited conversations we heard after each race finished, it sounds like Ash designed a tough but thoroughly enjoyable course. Whoever said that cyclocross was easy?

The real heroes – our volunteers

A big thanks also needs to go out to our huge crew of volunteers who, week-in and week-out, give up their time to ensure we can put on the best cyclocross racing in Australia. From 8am to 10am on race day, the volunteers descended on the race venue to hammer in the poles and run the tape for the course. And then they reversed the process in the afternoon to pull the entire course down. Legends! If you enjoy cyclocross racing, please consider helping out where you can.

Thank you to Stuart Carson for race timing, Sam Bolton for race commissaire duties, Mark Matear, Craig Makin and Bernadette Nash for running the race admin tent.

New club trailer

Many of you may have noticed this season that we have a shiny new club trailer. This larger trailer allows us to more easily store all the race equipment. And for the eagle-eyed amongst you, you’ll have noticed that the trailer is fitted internally with compartments to store all the different equipment. Ben Nash took it upon himself to organise and fit out the trailer, even getting the welding torch out to build the internal frame. It’s volunteers like Ben who make WACX what it is today, so next time you see him, say thanks.

It must be said that the new trailer is lacking one very important thing – some great WACX signage. So if anyone in the WACX community knows of a signwriter who can do us a deal on some killer graphics or vinyls for the trailer, please get in touch with us.

Up next – Star Wars Day

Now that everyone has opened up the lungs by completing the first Numbat Cup of 2025, we move onto Round 2. We always love when a CX race falls on May the fourth, because it means we can bring out the Star Wars-themed fancy dress. So get into the spirit of the day and rock your best Star Wars outfit as we race at Fishmarket Reserve in Guildford.

Once entries are open, we’ll post the link in the Calendar. If you’ve already registered for the entire Numbat Cup Series, you don’t need to do anything. Just remember to have your race plates fitted to your bike. Oh, and put on your best storm trooper outfit.
